Short staffing doesn't just limit enrollment. It drains tuition every week the room stays closed.
Calculate your real cost below, then let Hire Up fill the gap.
Estimates only, based on tuition you would collect at full enrollment. Lost tuition = open seats × weekly tuition × weeks short-staffed. The faster the room is staffed, the less you lose. That is where we come in.
This calculator estimates the tuition a preschool or child care center loses when it cannot fill seats because it is short-staffed. State staff-to-child ratio rules cap how many children each teacher can serve, so one open teacher position can keep several seats empty.
Lost tuition = open seats × average weekly tuition per seat × weeks short-staffed.
Example: 8 open seats at $325 a week is $2,600 in lost tuition every week, $10,400 a month, and $20,800 over 8 weeks. If the room stayed empty for a full year, the center would lose $135,200.
What it leaves out: overtime paid to cover open shifts, families who leave for another center, and waitlist families who enroll elsewhere. It assumes the seats would fill at full enrollment. All results are estimates.
Ratios differ by state and age group. See child care teacher requirements by state, or see how Hire Up Recruiting fills open classroom roles.
