Every hour your director spends screening resumes is an hour not spent on families, staff,
or the classroom. See what DIY recruiting is really costing you below.
Time cost = salary loaded with payroll taxes and benefits, ÷ 2,080 work hours × recruiting hours × 52 weeks. Estimates only. You focus on the children, the families, and the mission. We will handle recruiting.
This calculator estimates what it costs a preschool or child care center to recruit staff in-house. It adds two costs: the director’s time spent on hiring and the money spent on job boards.
Director time cost = annual salary × (1 + payroll taxes and benefits %) ÷ 2,080 work hours × hours per week spent recruiting × 52 weeks.
Job board spend = monthly Indeed or job board budget × 12.
Example: a director earning $85,000 with a 30% benefits load costs about $53 an hour. Eight hours a week on recruiting is $22,100 a year of director time. Add $500 a month in job ads ($6,000 a year) and in-house recruiting costs $28,100 a year, plus 416 hours that could go back to families, staff and classrooms.
What it leaves out: interview time from other staff, overtime to cover open shifts, and the cost of a hire who does not work out. All results are estimates.
