Hiring here is different

The credential clock

Lead teachers need the NC Early Childhood Credential (NCECC), with 6 months from hire to enroll and 18 months from hire to finish, and administrators need the Early Childhood Administration Credential. Since July 2025, 5 or more years of documented teaching in a licensed North Carolina child care facility counts as an equivalent, which opens the door to a lot of experienced candidates.

NC Pre-K

NC Pre-K lead teachers must hold, or be working toward, a Birth-through-Kindergarten (B-K) license or Preschool Add-on, and classrooms need a four- or five-star rated license. B-K licensed teachers are hard to find, so we reach out to them directly.

Star Rated License

The new Pathways to the Stars rules took effect July 1, 2025, and programs are moving to a new star rated license on the pathway they chose. In June 2026, DCDEE recommended keeping star-based differences in subsidy rates, so your star level still drives your rate. If you’re mid-transition, let us know and we’ll prioritize credentialed candidates.
