Hiring in Florida

Hiring here is different

VPK instructors

Every VPK class needs a lead teacher with at least a CDA or an approved equivalent, like a Florida Staff Credential. New leads also have to finish three emergent literacy courses within 45 days of hire, plus the performance standards course. Those courses decide who can lead your VPK class, so we ask about them on the first call.

VPK Director Credential

If you offer VPK, your director needs the VPK Director Credential, which is the Florida Director Credential every licensed center director already holds plus the VPK endorsement. When we run a director search, we ask about both.

School Readiness and Gold Seal

School Readiness pays up to 10% more to providers with strong CLASS program assessment scores, and Gold Seal providers earn at least 20% more for each School Readiness child. Qualified teachers protect that revenue, so we recruit with your scores in mind.

60,536 child care staff

Florida has the fourth-largest child care center workforce in the country.

4,493 child care centers

Private centers with paid staff across the state.

$33,269 average pay

Average annual pay per child care employee in 2025, including part-time staff (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

WHAT ROLES DO YOU RECRUIT IN FLORIDA?

We recruit for every role in Florida centers, from lead and assistant teachers and floaters to cooks, assistant directors and center directors. Every hire is a permanent placement on your payroll.

WHERE IN FLORIDA DO YOU RECRUIT?

Anywhere in the state. Recent searches have included Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Orlando, Winter Garden, Tampa, Brandon, Fort Myers, Naples, Bradenton, Daytona Beach and Tallahassee.

WHAT DO TEACHERS AND DIRECTORS EARN IN FLORIDA?

On roles we have recruited for in Florida, posted teacher pay has ranged from about $15 to $29 an hour, and center director pay from $50,000 to $95,000 a year. Pay depends on the role, credentials and the school.

WHAT DOES A CENTER DIRECTOR NEED IN FLORIDA?

Directors must be 21 and hold a Florida Director Credential before the license is issued. It builds on an active Staff Credential, the state’s introductory child care training and an approved child care management course. See the full Florida director rules.

WHAT DOES A TEACHER NEED IN FLORIDA?

All staff start the state’s 40-hour introductory course within 90 days and finish within a year. For every 20 children, one staff member must hold a staff credential, such as a CDA or an associate in ECE. See the full Florida teacher rules.

WHAT ARE THE STAFF-TO-CHILD RATIOS IN FLORIDA?

Under section 402.305, Florida Statutes, ratios are: birth to 1 year 1:4; 1-year-olds 1:6; 2-year-olds 1:11; 3-year-olds 1:15; 4-year-olds 1:20; 5 and older 1:25. Florida sets no statewide group size, but centers need one credentialed staff member for every 20 children.

DOES FLORIDA HAVE A STAR RATING FOR CHILD CARE?

Not a star rating. School Readiness providers must pass a CLASS-based program assessment run by local early learning coalitions, and Gold Seal Quality Care is a voluntary, accreditation-based designation that earns at least 20% higher School Readiness rates.
