Keystone STARS

In Keystone STARS, staff qualifications are one of the four areas scored at STAR 3 and 4, and programs at STAR 2 and above get extra reimbursement for children on Child Care Works. Losing a qualified teacher can cost you points toward your STAR level, so we look at how each candidate fits your STARS plan.

Pre-K Counts

Lead teachers in Pre-K Counts classrooms need a Pennsylvania early childhood teaching certificate, and teachers with an Instructional I certificate have 6 years to move up to Instructional II. Certified teachers are often drawn to school district salaries, so posting the job usually isn’t enough. We reach out to them directly.

Group supervisors

Pennsylvania’s center rules (Chapter 3270) require one group supervisor for every 45 children enrolled, with a bachelor’s in early childhood or a related field, or an associate degree plus 2 to 3 years of experience. Many centers post the role as Lead Teacher/Group Supervisor, and we treat it as its own search, separate from assistant group supervisors and aides.

Pennsylvania has the fifth-largest child care center workforce in the country.

3,668 child care centers

$32,239 average pay
